Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: - Relatives or close contacts of intensive care patients at the University Hospital Augsburg - Minimum stay of the visited patient in one of the intensive care units of at least 72h - At least one in-person visit to the intensive care unit - Declaration of voluntary participation
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: - Patient is no longer in the intensive care unit at the time of the survey - Patient is in the dying process or has already passed away - Potential participant is unable to complete the questionnaire due to language barriers, even with assistance from a trusted person or interpreter - Potential participant is, in the view of the recruiters, in an acute psychological crisis

| Numerical representation of relatives’ needs and their prioritization by participants using the “Vienna Family Needs Met Inventory-21” (V-FAM-NMI-21) questionnaire across the dimensions empathy, communication, knowledge, receiving support, providing support, and visiting regulations The questionnaire will initially be completed by relatives of patients who are treated in one of the surgical intensive care units at the University Hospital Augsburg during the period from December 2025 to December 2027. After the end of the observation period and the development of a participatory care concept for relatives (planned for December 2027 – June 2028), a follow-up survey using the same questionnaire will be conducted. | — |
