Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (1) Planned artificial joint replacement (2) Age: 18–100 years (3) Ability to give informed consent and provide written consent to participate in the study (4) Ability to operate an intravenous PCA pump

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) Lack of consent (2) BMI > 40 (3) Local infection at the puncture site of the regional anesthesia procedure (4) Spinal anesthesia (5) Known tumor or known fracture (6) Known intolerance/allergies to the medications used (7) Known abuse of illegal substances or medications (8) Known dementia (9) Anticipated difficulty in handling an intravenous PCA pump (10) Known severe renal insufficiency
