Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All CT examinations performed up to August 1, 2025 in patients with ARDS who have undergone both photon-counting CT and conventional CT at the University Hospital Essen will be included.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients without a confirmed diagnosis of ARDS, those who by August 1, 2025 have not undergone both photon-counting CT and conventional CT at the University Hospital Essen, and those with incomplete imaging data or missing clinical information.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Radiation exposure (volumetric CT dose index, dose-length product, effective dose, and organ doses) of ARDS patients examined with photon-counting CT up to August 1, 2025, compared with examinations performed on conventional CT scanners.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Assessment and comparison of additional clinical–radiological parameters, in particular pulmonary and extrapulmonary CT findings, between photon-counting CT and conventional CT in ARDS patients.
