Interventions

Group 1: Patients undergoing major non-cardiac surgery who receive both a peripheral and a central venous catheter (CVC) are monitored perioperatively to determine how often blood pressure drops occur

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. large, planned non-cardiac surgery (e.g. intraabdominal, trauma, orthopaedic surgery) 2. medical indication for invasive arterial blood pressure measurement 3. CVC suggested in presurgical visit 4. Age = 18 years

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Organ transplantation or intrathoracic surgery 2. Pre-existing CVC 3. Pregnant or breastfeeding women
