Group 1: Patients with hip or knee endoprosthesis implantation who have an indication for bone density measurement (DXA measurement).

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The study population will include all consenting adults undergoing primary knee or hip arthroplasty who meet the indication criteria for a DEXA scan.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria are lack of consent capacity, minors, patients with existing metal implants in both hip joints as well as in the lumbar spine, and patients undergoing prosthesis revision surgery.

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The primary endpoint of this study is the correlation between the intraoperatively assessed bone quality assigned by the surgeon and the values obtained from a perioperatively performed DEXA scan as well as microindentation measurements in patients undergoing primary hip or knee arthroplasty.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
In addition, analogous to the study by Bernatz JT et al. (4), it should be evaluated to what extent osteoporosis is underdiagnosed and undertreated in patients undergoing primary knee and hip arthroplasty.
