Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
1. Nutrition-related knowledge: Measured using 7 selected items from the Nutrition Knowledge Questionnaire for Adolescents. Response options for each item are a Likert scale ranging from “Disagree” to “Agree”. These will be operationalized in a binary manner, so that the two disagree options are coded together and the two agree options are coded together. For positively formulated items, the disagree options are assigned -1 point, while the agree options 1 point; for negatively formulated items it is the reverse. A participant’s overall score will represent the sum across items, with a higher score reflecting better knowledge. 2. Physical activity-related knowledge: Measured using a 7-item physical activity knowledge questionnaire. Response options and scoring are as described for primary outcome 1 above.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. Dietary diversity: Measured using a 25-item food frequency questionnaire. Response options indicate the frequency of consumption of the specific food/beverage item in the previous month, and include: “0-1/week”; “2-3/week”; “4+/week” 2. Nutrition and physical activity-related attitudes: 10 items (5 focusing on nutrition and 5 on physical activity) assessing various attitudes. Response options to each item are a 5-point Likert scale ranging from "Strongly disagree" to "Strongly agree". 3. Nutrition-related behavior 1 – consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages: 2 items (frequency in past 7 days and volume on most recent day consumed) estimating the volume of sugar-sweetened beverages consumed in the past 7 days. 4. Nutrition-related behavior 2 – consumption of processed foods: 1 item assessing how often the participant consumes processed foods high in salt content. Response options are a 5-point Likert scale ranging from "Never" to "Always". 5. Physical activity-related behavior: 1 item assessing the number of days over the past week the participant was physically active. Response options include each number of days from 0 to 7 days.
