Group 1: Opioid-dependent patients
new admissions to opioid agonist treatment (OAT) with intravenously administered diacetylmorphine (IV-DAM).

Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: -Opioid dependence nach ICD-10 -German (Swiss-German) mother tongue -Provided written informed consent to participate in the study
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: - any history of severe cerebral trauma; - any medical condition deemed clinically significant for the integrity of neurocognitive functioning - any present co-occurring serious mental health illness other than substance dependence

| - Whether opioid-dependent patients show neuropsychological deficits related to their drug use history prior to admission to OAT (baseline). - Whether IV-DAM or PO-OAT influence performance on neuropsychological tests. - Whether there are differences between IV-DAM and PO-OAT in terms of performance on neuropsychological tests. The participants will complete the Symptom-Checklist (SCL-90-R), the Beck-Depressions-Inventar (BDI), and a computerised neuropsychological test-battery before starting OAT (baseline) and 12 weeks later (follow-up). At follow-up the neuropsychological assessment will be carried out two hours after the opioid administration. The neuropsychological battery, which was established to assess cognitive impairment, will include the following tests: •Mehrfachwahl-Wortschatztest [MWT]: premorbid verbal intelligence •Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure Test [RCFT] and Taylors Complex Figure Test at follow-up: verbal memory and visuo-perceptual functioning •Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test [RAVLT]: immediate and delayed verbal recall •Rey Visual Design Learning Test [RVDLT]: immediate and delayed visual recall •S-Wörter nach Thurstone: verbal fluency, spontaneous productivity of language, adaptive flexibility •Farbe-Wort-Interferenz-Test nach Stroop [FWIT]: suppression of verbal interference •5 Punkte-Test nach Regard: adaptive flexibility, spontaneous figurative productivity •Assoziationslernen nach Goldenberg: figural-visual adaptive flexibility •Test d2 - Aufmerksamkeits-Belastungs-Test: selective attention •Zahlen-Symbol-Test [ZST]: sustained attention, general perceptuo-motor speed •Zahlen-Nachsprechen [Digit Span]: working memory, immediate recall Intra- and intergroup-comparisons will be made with regard to the results of the neuropsychological test performances. | — |
