Inclusion criteria: Age = 18 years Elective colonic resection for colorectal carcinoma Informed consent via Broad Consent for the use of biological samples

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Tumor size < 2 cm in the resection specimen Refusal of Broad Consent

- Technical feasibility of cryobiopsy: Determined by the number of attempts required to obtain a sample per activation time. Up to three attempts may be made to define a biopsy as successful for a given activation time. – Serosal perforation – Histological quality (tissue architecture, proportion of submucosa, fragmentation) – Depth of tissue penetration in mm (measured pathologically) – Crush artifacts – Degree of dysplasia – Number of crypts – Assessment of architectural preservation – Deepest tissue layer reached – Exploratory: Histopathological tumor staging
