Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. The placement of the posterior composite restorations was carried out during the undergraduate clinical courses in Operative Dentistry at the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, Germany, in 1995/1996. 2. All restorations were placed in permanent, vital teeth that showed no pain symptoms at the time of treatment. 3. A microhybrid composite (Herculite XRV, Kerr, Karlsruhe, Germany) was used for the restorations. 4. The application followed a predefined clinical protocol. 5. All patients were between 18 and 70 years old at the time of restoration placement. 6. All patients were re-examined during the first follow-up between 1995 and 1997, within 36 months after the initial placement of the restorations.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. The placement of the posterior composite restorations did not take place during the undergraduate clinical courses in Operative Dentistry at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, Germany, in 1995/1996. 2. The restorations were not placed in permanent, vital teeth that were free of pain symptoms at the time of treatment. 3. A microhybrid composite (Herculite XRV, Kerr, Karlsruhe, Germany) was not used for the restorations. 4. The application did not follow a predefined clinical protocol. 5. The patients were not between 18 and 70 years of age at the time of restoration placement. 6. The patients were not re-examined during the first follow-up between 1995 and 1997 within 36 months after the initial placement of the restorations.

- Restoration survival after =25 years, categorized as: intact / repaired / replaced / tooth extracted - Occurrence of specific deficiencies, such as marginal leakage, discoloration, or secondary caries - Preservation of pulp vitality in the restored teeth - Comparison of clinical performance based on: ->Cavity class (single-surface vs. multi-surface restorations) ->Tooth type (premolars vs. molars) ->Jaw location (maxilla vs. mandible)
