Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Adults (=18 years) requiring intensive care with suspected pneumonia

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with pre-existing pneumonia (longer than 24 hours) at the time of admission/onset of illness. Patients with pre-existing chronic autoimmune disease (e.g., Crohn's disease, rheumatoid arthritis) at the time of admission/onset of illness.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The DABK plasma concentration at defined time points in patients with pneumonia in pg/ml.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Presence of organ failure (e.g., acute lung failure, kidney failure, multiple organ failure) based on the SOFA score. Examination of clinical inflammation parameters (e.g., IL-6, PCT, CRP) and their association with DABK. Assessment of intensive care measures (e.g., organ support).
