Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: - cardiac surgery with median sternotomy
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: - positive pregnancy test - heart failure (NYHA class III or higher) - peripheral arterial disease stage IIb or higher - chronic respiratory insufficiency requiring oxygen therapy - pharmacological immunosuppression - current treatment for malignancy - history of major intestinal surgery - chronic inflammatory bowel disease - dependency on / affiliation with the study team - vomiting and/or diarrhea within the past month (three or more episodes)
