Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: • Inpatients in the clinics Sonnenhalde or UPK • Doctor-diagnosed depressive disorder (F32, F33, F34) • Sufficient knowledge of German language to complete questionnaires and tests • Signed written informed consent and voluntary participation in the study

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: • Medically assessed contraindications for physical activity • Patients diagnosed with lifetime diagnosis of manic episode (F30) or bipolar affective disorder (F31) or psychosis • Patients suffering from substance use problems in the past 3 months • Patients suffering from acute suicidality • Pregnancy at the time of assessment • Self-reported gait or balance difficulties • Uncontrolled hypertension • Cardiovascular event within the past 12 months • Clinically significant cognitive impairment (Modified Mini-Mental State Exam score <23)

Cardiorespiratory fitness at post and follow-up, assessed by a cardiopulmonary exercise test.

- Post- and follow-up-test of depressive symptom severity, as assessed by HAMD17 and PhQ-9. - Post- and follow-up-test of HrQoL, as assessed by SF-12. - Post- and follow-up-test of objective physical activity, as assessed by Fibion®. - Post- and follow-up-test of self-reported physical activity, as assessed by 7DPAR. - Post- and follow-up-test of body-composition, as assessed by body mass index and body fat. - Post- and follow-up-test of neurobiological markers, as assessed by blood samples. - Post- and follow-up-test of psychological mechanisms, as assessed by multiple internationally accepted instruments. - Post- and follow-up-test of emotion regulation, as assessed by the HRV at rest while watching sadness provoking videos. - Post- and follow-up-test of executive functions, as assessed by Verbal fluency and Stroop tasks. - Post- and follow-up tests of smart ring usage, as assessed by the Technology Acceptance Questionnaire.
