Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
PTSD PTSD symptoms are assessed using a standardized clinical interview (CAPS-CA-5), which is conducted on site. In addition, questionnaire data is collected using validated instruments (CATS). Interview and questionnaire data are collected at both measurement times. Predictors: Digital biomarkers Various digital biomarkers are collected in a short free interview (15 min) that is recorded on video: Facial expressions, speech, eye-tracking and used to predict PTSD symptoms. The digital biomarkers are recorded at both measurement times. The questions are based on Schultebraucks et al. (2022) and were adapted for this study.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
General psychopathology Among others, further questionnaires on depression and anxiety symptoms (CDI, SCARED, DASS) are collected. These were also recorded from adolescents and caregivers at both measurement points. Predictors Inflammatory activation As part of the study, a blood sample can also be taken with the consent of the adolescents, which will be used to examine the following inflammatory markers: In the first step, we will examine ratios of white blood cell-to-mean platelet volume ratio (WMR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), and multiplication of neutrophil and monocyte counts (MNM). The systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI) and interleukin (IL)-6, IL-10, IL-8, IL-1 receptor antagonist (RA), tumor necrosis factor (TNF), CRP, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), S100b and neuron-specific enolase (NSE) are then measured in the serum. If possible, blood samples are taken during treatment or once during the study. The inflammatory markers are also used to predict PTSD symptoms. Covariates Medical history The diagnoses of the adolescents are taken from the ongoing treatment after the written consent of the participants and their legal guardians. In addition, medication intake and possible operations following accident trauma are recorded. This data is used to control for possible influences in the prediction of PTSD. Socio-demographic data In order to record possible influences from socio-demographic data, adolescents and caregivers complete a study-specific questionnaire on socio-demographic characteristics once at measurement time 1.
