Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The sample consists of adolescent female patients (13-17 years) with a diagnosis of depression, anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa, or their atypical forms (diagnosed on the basis of ICD-10 by the treating therapist/doctor on the respective unit) who are undergoing inpatient treatment at our centre.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with any of the following conditions are excluded from the study: acute suicidality, schizophrenia, other disorders with acute psychotic symptoms, severe depressive symptoms, BMI>25 kg/m². Further exclusion criteria are an IQ below 70 and insufficient knowledge of German on the part of the patient or the carer (assessed by informal interviews).

MeasureTime frame
Body dissatisfaction, attitude, and figure perception were measured using the German version of the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ).

Eating disorder- and depression-specific measures were assessed using German versions of the following questionnaires and the Pre/Post Baseline of the training: - PHQ-9 (Patient Health Questionniare) - ANIS (Anorexia Nervosa Inventory for Self-Assesment) - Two alternative forced choice task (2-AFC), pre- and post-training baseline - PACS (Physical Appearance Comparison Scale) - EDI-II (Eating Disorder Inventory II) - OBCS (Objectified Body Consciousness Scale) - BISS (Body Image State Scale) Measurement points for all questionnaires: - Day 1: before the first training session of the intervention condition (group A) or control condition (group B) - Day 15: before the first training session of the intervention condition (group B) or control condition (group A); after a 10-day washout phase following the first training phase - Day 29: after a 10-day washout phase following the second training phase Measurement point of the pre/post baseline of the 2-AFC training before and after each training session (day 1-4, day 15-18) and on day 29.
