Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patients will be included who have been treated with hair follicle transplantations due to chronic wounds and in whom re-epithelialization with complete wound closure has already occurred. Additionally, patients must be medically stable enough to attend outpatient examination appointments. As this involves an investigation of the skin quality of former wound sites after a very specific therapy in a small patient collective, there will be no selection based on age or gender.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: The study participation will be terminated under clearly defined circumstances to ensure the safety of the subjects and the integrity of the study results. Discontinuation occurs if there is a new wound opening or complications at the examined site that make meaningful data collection impossible. Likewise, amputation of the affected skin area during the course of the study leads to the exclusion of the respective person from further analysis. Furthermore, study discontinuation is planned if new severe illnesses or health limitations arise, or if the participant's health condition deteriorates to such an extent that further participation becomes unreasonable or significantly influences the study course
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| Non-invasive assessment and comparison of structural and cellular skin quality in hair follicle-induced wound healing versus secondarily healed wound areas (at the wound periphery), using skin physiological parameters obtained by confocal microscopy and Cutimeter®. | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| Detailed analysis of epidermal thickness, keratinocyte density, and cell morphology using confocal microscopy. Assessment of skin barrier function by measuring transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Determination of stratum corneum hydration as an indicator of moisture retention. Measurement of pigment and erythema content. Determination of sebum content. Quantitative analysis of skin elasticity using Cutometer®. | — |
