Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: At least one nightmare per week (nightmare defined as a vivid dream experience full of fear and anxiety, from which one usually wakes up with a fairly accurate memory)
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: current psychiatric or sleep disorders (except nightmares) taking medication that affects sleep (e.g. hypnotics, antidepressants, anxiolytics, beta-blockers, benzodiazepines, stimulants) IQ <80 systemic, neurological or brain diseases insufficient communication skills in the German language no shift work or intercontinental flights in the last 30 days allergies to fragrances used in the study
