Group 1: Patients with periodontitis 500 participants will provide samples such as saliva and blood, which will be analyzed in the lab for several biomarker. Group 2: Periodontally healthy individuals

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Age: = 18 years General health: ASA classification 1 or 2 (healthy or mildly ill) Written informed consent Additionally: Group 1: Diagnosed periodontitis Group 2 (control group): Periodontally healthy individuals

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Under 18 years of age Poor general health (ASA classification = 3) Unable to give informed consent Acute inflammatory diseases outside the oral cavity No written consent Fewer than 10 teeth Pregnancy Diseases with immunosuppression or ongoing immunosuppressive therapy Increased risk of infectious endocarditis Increased risk of medication-induced jaw necrosis

Identification of biomarkers that allow prediction of periodontitis progression after therapy.

Characterization of the patient's genome, epigenome, metagenome, and proteome Association of biomarkers (e.g., cytokines, chemokines) with disease severity and progression Analysis of the subgingival microbiota and its role in treatment response
