Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Study Group: • LC symptoms (PCS score according to Bahmer > 10.75) • LC symptoms that began within 4 weeks of infection and persisted for longer than 12 weeks. The LC symptoms should not be caused by other diagnoses or medications and should not have existed before the acute COVID disease. • Ability to understand and follow the nature of the study and the procedures associated with the study • Written consent Reference Group: • SARS-CoV-2 infection without LC symptoms • Ability to understand and follow the nature of the study and the procedures associated with the study • Stable medication for at least 4 weeks prior to inclusion (antihypertensives, diuretics, statins) • Written consent

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: • Insufficient German language skills (at the discretion of the examiner) • Pre-existing diagnosis of persistent or recurrent psychiatric illness prior to exposure to SARS-CoV-2 • Pre-existing neurological disease associated with known structural changes of the central nervous system, with the exception of microvascular/nonspecific white matter lesions or age-related changes

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
•Immunological and metabolic changes are measured before, immediately after the physical and mental exercise phase and after a short-term (2-hour) recovery phase. •Brain network analyses using quantitative electroencephalography (qEEG)

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
• Immunometabolic characterization of clinical and functional LC subtypes • Identification of suitable biomarkers or functional tests for diagnostics, differential diagnosis, prognostics and progression
