Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: -Ability to understand the informed consent -Consent to participate in the study -Uncomplicated performance of phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: -Corneal diseases other than those leading to the indication -History of herpes infection in the study eye -History of ocular surgeries except for uncomplicated cataract surgery > 3 months prior to study start -Regular use of analgesics -Chronic pain -Pregnancy or breastfeeding

Pain at the first postoperative day on the numerical rating scale

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
-Pain on the visual analogue scale (VAS) -Assessment of overall pain intensity (from the short-form McGill Pain Questionnaire) -Assessment of four sensory pain components (from the short-form McGill Pain Questionnaire) -Epiphora / foreign body sensation / photophobia -Need for systemic analgesics
