Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Planned surgical intervention with anesthesia procedure - Inpatient admission - Sufficient cognitive competence to understand information, process questions and provide answers regarding own medical history and planned procedure

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Acute immobilizing trauma or acute debilitating illness - Insufficient knowledge of German with severely impaired communication - Blindness, severe visual impairment that is not corrected by a visual aid - very urgent indication for surgery (within 0 to 12 hours, N0-N3) - Lack of written consent to participate - Insufficient standing ability (without aids) of the patient - Body weight > 150kg

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
body sway and effort for balance control (velocity of the CoP) preoperatively (as part of the premedication consultation), on the 3rd and 7th day postoperatively, on the day of discharge and 180 days postoperatively

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
- physical fluctuations: Amplitude (amplitude), velocity, acceleration of the CoP and the CoM as well as the individual joints - angular velocity - at different time points (preoperative, postoperative on days 3, 7 and on the day of discharge). - fall events, re-hospitalization and survival of patients in the period of 180 days after surgery - Correlation between preoperative frailty scores and postoperative changes in balance parameters - Subgroup analyses: influence of cognitive impairment (measured with the Montreal Cognitive Assessment MoCA)) o Depressiveness (2-question test according to Whooley) o Postoperative delirium (using the Nu-DESC scale) o Risk of falls (according to STRATIFY score)
