Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Diagnosed type 1 diabetes mellitus, Active cheerleader in competitive sports (Level 3-7), Participation in an international competition, Consent to participate and data processing, Availability for saliva sample collection.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Other chronic diseases that affect glucose or cortisol metabolism (e.g., metabolic syndrome, Cushing's disease, Addison's disease, other types of diabetes, etc.), Acute infections or injuries within the last 2 weeks, Shift work, as irregular sleep patterns affect cortisol levels, Use of medications that may influence cortisol levels (e.g., corticosteroids, beta-blockers, etc.), Current pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| Within-subject difference in glucose dynamics, assessed by continuous glucose monitoring (Freestyle Libre 3) over the 24-hour period following exertion, compared between competition and training conditions. | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| The secondary endpoints comprise the cortisol response, measured as the difference in salivary cortisol concentration immediately before versus immediately after exertion, and subjective stress perception, assessed at three time points: before exertion, immediately after exertion, and 30 minutes post-exertion. In this study, the effects of each condition on participants’ stress levels and hormonal responses are analyzed by comparing these endpoints between the competition and training situations. | — |
