Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Normal weight (BMI 18.5-24.9 kg/m²) - Voluntary participation confirmed with signature

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Allergy to citrus fruits - Diagnosed diabetes mellitus or diagnosed insulin resistance - Capillary blood glucose = 200 mg/dL on one of the test days - Capillary blood glucose = 126 mg/dL before taking the test drink (fasting) on one of the test days - Coagulation disorder, haematophobia - Pregnancy, breastfeeding - Smoking (1 cigarette/day or at least 5 cigarettes/week or at least 1 pack of cigarettes/month or 1 cigarillo/day or at least 5/week or 2 cigars/week or 2 pipes/week) - Excessive alcohol consumption (on average more than 7 or 14 glasses/drinks per week for women or men and more than 1 drink/glass or 2 drinks/glasses on the respective evening before the test days) - Chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract - Liver diseases - Tumour diseases - Taking medication that affects fat metabolism - Taking supplements that contain carotenoids

Primary

MeasureTime frame
There is no primary endpoint in the classical sense. The aim of the study is to investigate the possible effects of orange juice carotenoids on bioenergetic parameters. The homogenisation processes are to be compared with each other in order to find out whether the technological processing increases the functionality of carotenoids. The carotenoids are measured in plasma using UHPLC. The bioenergetic functionality in PBMCs will be evaluated on the basis of ATP levels, citrate synthase activity and respiratory chain complexes.

MeasureTime frame
There is no secondary endpoint in the classical sense. A further aim of the study will be to correlate the vitamin C levels in the plasma of the test subjects with bioenergetic functionality.
