The primary outcome is patient empowerment through the use of peer counselors. Patient empowerment is understood as the subjective perception of increased self-efficacy, participation in treatment decisions, and independent management of the illness. The outcome is measured once at the time of discharge from the hospital. The measurement is carried out using a questionnaire with an empowerment scale developed specifically for this study. The instrument used is not a standardized questionnaire, but a study-specific scale that is specifically tailored to the use of peer counselors.
