Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: • Age = 65 years • Diagnosed benign brain tumor (e.g., meningiomas, pituitary adenomas) • Ability to provide consent and complete the tests

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: • Malignant brain tumors or metastases • Severe psychiatric disorders or preoperative dementia (MMSE <20) • Surgical contraindications

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The primary outcome of the study is the postoperative deterioration of cognitive performance in the assessed questionnaires/scores after surgical removal of benign brain tumours. Standardised instruments such as the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), the SF-36 RAND Version 1.0, WHOQOL-BREF, G8 screening and - if screening is positive - a practical geriatric assessment including Mini-Cog and Gait Speed Test are used for this purpose. To detect postoperative delirium, the Nursing Delirium Screening Scale (NuDESC) is employed. Assessments are conducted preoperatively as well as 1 week, 3 months and 15 months postoperatively. The results are correlated with surgical variables (e.g., duration of surgery, blood loss), neurological deficits, and tumour characteristics. The study aims to identify predictive factors for cognitive and functional recovery to improve decision-making and patient counselling.
