Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Ability and willingness to consent to the study Age: = 60 years (or 18-25) Primary clinical diagnosis of a depressive episode (ICD-10: F32.1, F32.2, F33.1, F33.2)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Acute suicidality (clinical impression) Other relevant psychiatric disorders: Bipolar disorder, psychosis or schizophrenia, addiction/substance abuse Epilepsy/previous epileptic seizures Family history of epileptic seizures Mild cognitive impairment Neurodegenerative diseases Past or present neurological disorders or head surgeries Implants: Cochlear implant, pacemaker, deep brain stimulation, vagus nerve stimulation Acute dermatological condition of the scalp Pregnancy or breastfeeding Non-German speaking
