Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: sufficient knowledge of German; sufficient cognitive status of the patients to understand the contents of the study and to be able to give their consent

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Persons under the age of 18, with insufficient knowledge of German and a cognitive status that no longer permits informed consent to the study.

Identification of enabling and hinderingfactors for timely dementia diagnostics from the perspective of patients and their relatives. Verification based on the planned individual interviews with patients and relatives in quarters 3 and 4 in 2025 and on the basis of the focus group in the 1st quarter of 2026. Qualitative individual interviews with patients and relatives will be conducted until an "information power" is achieved. It is expected that 7-10 interviews per group will lead to a saturation effect. Among other things, the interviews serve to gain information on topics such as enabling and hindering factors of dementia diagnostics in general, possible individual motives and barriers regarding the use of cognitive testing in particular and further care in a specialist setting. The interviews will be conducted in a semi-structured manner by means of a guideline, the contents of which are developed according to the "SPSS method" according to Helfferich. In addition to the qualitative individual interviews, a focus group with the Patient Advisory Board based at Witten/Herdecke University (Institute of General Practice and Outpatient Health Care) is planned for the 1st quarter of 2026 in order to be able to identify and transfer possible factors regardless of the disease. This approach also allows a more independent perspective and could help to transfer the results to other stigmatized diseases in medium to long term. The methodological approach corresponds to the qualitative individual interviews by means of a guideline and the subsequent content-analytical evaluation according to Kuckartz with inductive and deductive categories.	—

Systematic identification and summary of the current literature on enabling and hindering factors in dementia diagnostics in the 2nd quarter of 2026. The scoping review will be based on the databases MEDline, Embase, Cinahl and PsychINFO with corresponding keywords and MeSH. The focus is on cenabling and hindering factors for timely dementia diagnostics from the perspective of patients and relatives. In order to enable a more comprehensive literature search, "grey literature" such as congress papers and guidelines are also searched outside of the aforementioned databases. To ensure that search results are up-to-date, only literature from the last ten years will be included. Since this is a scoping review, there will be no restriction on the quality of the literature found and thus all types of publications will be included. The publications found will be displayed in a database and screened with the help of a software by title and abstract to see whether they fit the research question. When a publication is included, the full text will be edited and finally an extraction of the information contained is created. The Johanna Briggs Institute's Guidelines for the Preparation of a Scoping Review will be used to prepare the results overview. Finally, all extracted results will be summarized in order to obtain as comprehensive a picture as possible of the current literature on enabling and hindering factors for timely and further dementia diagnosis.	—
