Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Normal weight (BMI between 18.5 and 26), sufficient German language skills, male or female gender identity

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Current psychological axis I disorder according to the DSM-IV, current or lifetime psychotherapy or psychiatric hospitalization, psychiatric medication, tinnitus, hearing problems, skin problems at the sites of electrode attachment, dyslexia, left-handedness.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Perceived control: Assessed with the item "How much control do you have over the stimuli" on a 7-point Likert scale at 5 time points during the stress task after every 9th trial.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Self-efficacy: Assessed with the item "If you think about the future, how do you rate your ability to cope with stressful and difficult situations?" on a 5-point Likert scale before and after the self-efficacy manipulation. Perceived helplessness: Assessed with the item "How helpless do you feel with regard to the stimuli" on a 7-point Likert scale at 5 time points during the stress task after every 9th trial. Aversiveness: Assessed with the item "How unpleasant are the stimuli for you?" on a 7-point Likert scale at 5 time points during the stress task after every 9th trial. State depression and anxiety: Assessed with the German state version of the State-Trait Anxiety and Depression Inventory (STADI-S) before and after the stress task. Negative affect: Assessed with the German Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) before and after the stress task.
