Interventions

Group 1: The analysis of short tandem repeats (STRs), based on PCR and capillary electrophoresis, is usually used to determine the origin of a biological trace at a crime scene or for identification.

Inclusion criteria: Test subjects are over 18 and can provide information about their externally visible characteristics and their biogeographical origin.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Test subjects are under 18 and cannot provide any information about their externally visible characteristics and biogeographical origin.

MeasureTime frame
Establishing the methods for molecular genetic phenotyping, biogeographical origin and identification (mini-sequencing / capillary electrophoresis and MPS analyses) for the analysis of eye, skin and hair colour, for the analysis of BGA markers (mitochondrial DNA, Y-STRs and SNPs) and ID SNPs/ STRs. The subjects are asked to complete a questionnaire in which they provide information on skin, hair and eye colour, as well as their biogeographic origin. Then, a buccal mucosa swab is taken from each subject and photographs are taken of the eye, hair and skin. DNA will be extracted from the buccal swabs taken and analysed. The aim is to achieve the published prediction accuracy for the markers used in the analysis.
