Patients completing inpatient or day program geriatric psychiatry treatment

Interventions

Group 1: Access to the Elderbot for five days during geriatric psychiatric inpatient or day program treatment. A daily usage time of 20 minutes is recommended, but no minimum or maximum usage duration

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Current inpatient or day program treatment in the Geriatric Psychiatry Unit Signed informed consent Readiness to interact with the Elderbot Readiness to participate in two interviews (T0 and T1) and complete the online questionnaires Adequate hearing and vision Adequate motor skills to use the Elderbot Adequate German language proficiency Adequate clinical stability

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Acute suicidality Significant cognitive impairment or dementia (MMSE total score < 25 according to current medical record)

MeasureTime frame
Post (5 days after the baseline assessment; T1): Usability assessed using the 2-item Usability Metric for User Experience (UMUX-Lite; Lewis et al., 2013; DOI: 10.1145/2470654.2481287) at Post (T1). The primary outcome is the usability rating based on the SUS equivalence score at Post (T1; [https://measuringu.com/umux-lite/]). An SUS equivalence score of 68 is indicative of acceptable usability.

Usability: Assessed after five days (Post;T1) with the the System Usability Scale. Usage Intention: Assessed after five days (Post; T1) using the single-item question: "I would like to continue using the Elderbot. Rating scale: 1 = strongly disagree, 2 = disagree, 3 = somewhat disagree, 4 = somewhat agree, 5 = agree, 6 = strongly agree. Duration of use: Number of minutes used over 5 days (T1) Acceptance: Assessed at post (T1) using the Godspeed Questionnaire (24 items) subscales Anthropomorphism, Animacy, Likeability, Safety, and Intelligence. Perceived Social Support: Assessed at post (T1) with the Support subscale of the Quality of Relationships Index. Technology Skepticism: Assessed at post (T1) using the Skepticism subscale of the Technology Usage Inventory. User Trust: Assessed at post (T1) with three subscales of the Trusting Beliefs Scale: Benevolence, Integrity, and Competence. Loneliness: Assessed with the UCLA Loneliness Scale at both Baseline (T0) and Post (T1) (Outcome: change in loneliness from T0 to T1). Psychiatric Symptoms: Assessed using the 18-item Mini-Symptom Checklist for depressive, anxious, and somatic symptoms, measured at both T0 and T1 (Outcome: symptom change from T0 to T1). Free Association Test: spontaneous mental representations of two terms: “artificial intelligence” and “human-centered artificial intelligence” at baseline and post (T0 & T1; What do you associate with artificial intelligence?, What do you associate with human-centric artificial intelligence?)
