Interventions

Group 1: The first arm of the study consists of the intervention group, which includes participants who self-report currently experiencing bulimia nervosa, binge-eating disorder or subjective problems

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Current symptoms of bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder or subjective problems with eating according to self-disclosure; sufficient knowledge of German; agreement to the participation criteria; informed consent; availability of internet access and smartphone; willingness to participate in three online surveys; willingness to use the self-help smartphone app for 6 weeks; willingness to leave an anonymized email address for the survey.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Acute suicidality (measured with the PHQ-9 item 9, cut-off > 2); bipolar disorder; psychotic disorder; current stay in inpatient treatment, BMI <18 kg/m2

Reduction in eating disorder symptoms measured with the “Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire Short Version” (EDE-QS)

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The increase in self-esteem measured with the “Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale” (RSE, T0 and T1). The increase in quality of life measured with the “Globalitem of the World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale - Brief Version” (WHOQOL-Bref, T0 and T1). The improvement of depressive symptoms with the “Patient Health Questionnaire” (PHQ-9, T0 and T1). Qualitative data on eating behavior (T0 and T1)
