Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Archive cohort - All patients who have been evaluated presurgically using sEEG since the founding of the Rhein-Main Epilepsy Center in 2015 and subsequently undergone epilepsy surgery. Prospective cohort: - All patients who are scheduled for sEEG/microwire implantation - All patients who are scheduled for epilepsy surgery in the temporal lobe area with an indication for intraoperative electrophysiological determination of the resection margin.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Suspected malignant neoplasm in the temporal lobe - Inflammatory disease of the central nervous system (CNS) - History of meningitis / encephalitis less than 12 months ago

Primary

MeasureTime frame
primary outcome parameters are preoperative and intraoperative electrophysiological markers, their prognostic value (epileptological outcome after surgery, Engel classification, ILAE classification), as well as their diagnostic sensitivity in predicting immunological inflammatory changes in brain tissue.

I. comparing preoperative electrophysiological data from sEEG or Miocrowire regarding their diagnostic and prognostic value II. comparing intraoperative electrophysiological data from sEEG or Miocrowire regarding their diagnostic and prognostic value III. individual electrophysiological data and their correlation with specific immunological inflammatory changes IV. the individual immunological inflammatory changes (CD45 (pan-Leukozytenmarker), CD3 (pan-T-Zell-Marker), CD4 und CD8, CD20 (B-Zellmarker), CD68, CD206, CD163 und Iba1 (Mikroglia-/Makrophagenmarker)) and the correlation with severity, duration, clinical presentation of the epilepsy, cognitive and neuropsychological deficits pre- and postoperatively, postsurgical outcome. V. the individual electrophysiological data and their correlation with severity, duration, clinical presentation of the epilepsy, cognitive and neuropsychological deficits pre- and postoperatively, postsurgical outcome.
