Interventions

Group 1: Up to 30 SCA1, 2, 3 or 6 mutation carriers and their first-degree relatives and 20 healthy controls will be included. The examination as part of the study takes around 120 minutes, 60 minutes

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Written informed consent - Fulfilment of the inclusion criteria of the defined diagnostic group, in this case mutation carriers for SCA1, 2, 3 or 6 as well as their first-degree relatives or healthy controls.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Lack of capacity to give consent. - Contraindications against MRI examinations - Clinical instability or malignant underlying disease - Simultaneous participation in an intervention study with an investigational drug for the treatment of spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA)

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The aim is to establish quantitative UHF-MRI biomarkers for polyglutamine SCAs that have a high potential for the detection of early structural disease manifestations and are suitable for mapping disease progression.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Back-translation of the UHF MRI sequences assessed as sensitive to the lower field strength of 3T.
