Group 1: 20 patients who have suffered a short-term or sudden hearing loss and who received a cochlear implant of MED-EL within the last 2 years after hearing loss. Group 2: 30 patients with a history

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients who are implanted with a MED-EL cochlear implant (Pulsar or newer)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with neurological limitations or pre-existing conditions

Primary

MeasureTime frame
IPGEslope as a measure of the change in the slope of the ECAP growth function in response to an increase in the interphase gap, serving as an indicator of cochlear health. Compared between the two groups with different durations of hearing loss, as well as for cathodic-leading stimulation and anodic-leading stimulation.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Percentage of speech recognition (% SR) in the monaural OLSA with noise using the S0N0 setup, and percentage of correctly repeated words in the Freiburg Monosyllable Test, compared to the IPGEslope. Pitch ranking at an apical and a basal electrode using the standard clinical phase duration and a very long phase duration (400 µs).
