Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Routine data: All patients who receive medical care in the participating wards and have a length of stay of at least five days are included. For the first phase all suitable patients with an admission date after 30.06.2024 and a discharge date not later than 30.09.2024 are included, for the second phase all suitable patients with an admission date after 30.09.2024 and a discharge date not later than 31.12.2024 are included. This avoids possible cross-over cases between the two phases. Patient survey: Patients are included if they have been receiving medical care on the participating wards for at least 24 hours on the day of the survey and have an expected length of stay of at least five days. In addition, patients must be able to answer the questions meaningfully in German. Written informed consent is a prerequisite for participation in the survey. Staff survey: Nursing staff working in the participating wards at the time of the reference date surveys t0 and t1 are included. Informed consent is a prerequisite for participation. Focus groups: Nurses who worked in the participating wards during both phases will be included. Written informed consent is a prerequisite for participation.
