Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The primary aim of the present pilot study is (1) to test the feasibility and acceptability (assessed via an adapted version of the Program Feedback Scale; Smith, Ahuvia, Ito, & Schleider, 2023 and via the Expectation of Improvement and Suitability of Treatment Form, EIST; Agras, Walsh, Fairburn, Wilson, & Kraemer, 2000) of a brief digital intervention to improve body image in adolescents and young adults with and without eating disorders.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
In addition, it will be investigated whether the intervention leads to an improvement in (2) current body satisfaction (measured using the German version of the Body Image States Scale, BISS, Cash, Fleming, Alindogan, Steadman, & Whitehead, 2002; German version by Vocks et al, 2007), (3) mood (measured using the German version of a short inventory according to Wilhelm and Schoebi, Wilhelm & Schoebi, 2007), (4) appreciation of the functions of one's own body (measured using the German version of the Functionality Appreciation Scale, FAS; Alleva, Tylka, & Kroon Van Diest, 2017; German version by Kranner & Tran, 2021), (4) the ability to recognize the functions of one's own body (measured using the German version of the Functionality Appreciation Scale, FAS; Alleva, Tylka, & Kroon Van Diest, 2017; German version by Kranner & Tran, 2021) and (5) the appreciation of one's own body (measured using the German version of the Body Appreciation Scale-2, BAS-2; Tylka & Wood-Barcalow, 2015; German version by Behrend & Warschburger, 2022) in the adolescents and young adults immediately after and one week after the intervention. Moreover, following Naumann and colleagues (Naumann, Svaldi, Wyschka, Heinrichs, & von Dawans, 2018), body acceptance, mood and stress are to be recorded using 6 items on a VAS ranging from 0 = “not at all easy or not at all or negative” to 100 = “very easy or very or positive”. Additionally, on an exploratory level, it will be investigated whether there are significant differences in the above-mentioned variables between the convenience sample and the clinical subsample.
