Inclusion criteria: Deceased patients with sudden unexplained cause of death, residence or stay in the endemic area for BoDV-1, general consent of relatives to autopsy

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Cause of death clarified, no residence or stay in endemic area

Measure	Time frame
The primary objective of the study is to determine whether and how often Borna disease virus 1 (BoDV-1) can be identified as the cause of death in a group of people who died suddenly and without explanation in an endemic area.	—

As a secondary objective of the study, infectious agents related to sudden unexplained deaths are diagnosed and recorded.	—
