Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Patients with a planned surgical procedure lasting 1 hour or more - Patients undergoing surgery under general anesthesia - Patient capable of giving consent - Existing, signed declaration of consent from the patient

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Emergency operations - Patients with language barriers - Patients with preoperative delirium on admission to hospital - Possible unwillingness to follow the study protocol

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Incidence of postoperative delirium on one of the first five days after surgery in the case group compared to the control group. Delirium is diagnosed using various methods, such as the 3D-CAM or the 4AT test, as well as the CAM-ICU in the intensive care unit.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Incidence of perioperative cardiac and pulmonary complications. These are recorded in the KAS system.
