Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - standard of care treatment with transurethral resection of the bladder (TURB) due to bladder cancer at Klinikum rechts der Isar - informed consent to the operation and participation in the study

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - planned re-resection after previous transurethral resection of the bladder (TURB) - previous Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) treatment

quality of the histological specimen by assessing the proportion of cautery artifacts Detailed description: The histological quality (relative integrity) of the obtained specimens based on the proportion of cautery artifacts represents the primary endpoint of the study and is analyzed postoperatively by the pathologist. A specimen with few and/or low cautery artifacts has a higher quality in tumor grading and staging than one with many and/or severe cautery artifacts. The specimens are assessed visually under the microscope by the pathologist to evaluate their cautery artifacts. The pathologist is blinded to which resection technique was used. The percentage of cautery artifacts in the samples from a patient is recorded with a pseudonym (sample number in the study) by the pathologist using a questionnaire.
