Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All participants have no neurological disorders, normal or corrected-to-normal vision and are MRI-compatible. The healthy participants must not have a mental disorder.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria for all participants include pregnancy, neurological disorders and MRI incompatibility. MRI incompatibility includes MRI incompatible implants or devices in the body, including metallic or magnetic implants containing iron, cobalt or nickel (e.g. pacemakers, automatic insulin pumps), implanted hearing aids [e.g. cochlear implants], metal endoprostheses, metal parts or metal splinters in the body and magnetically attached dental prostheses. Also excluded are people who suffer from claustrophobia and people with back problems that prevent laying in the scanner for the duration of the experiment without experiencing pain. Additional exclusion criteria for healthy test subjects are current psychiatric or neurological illness, drug use, and psychoactive medication.

Comparison of decision-making and brain activity before and after social exclusion in Cyberball. Paradigms in the scanner: -Cyberball task to induce the feeling of social exclusion -Self-Harm Aggression Reward Paradigm to capture the behavioral choices between aggression vs. self-harm measurements: -brain activity and connectivity via fMRT (3T Siemens) The tests all take place on the same day and are linked to each other. It starts with the completion of two questionnaires (STAI and STAXI). The participants are then placed in the scanner, where resting-state data is being collected. They then complete the inclusion version of the Cyberball task, followed by the Self-Harm Aggression Reward Paradigm (SHARP). Next comes the cyberball task in the exclusion version, again followed by the reward and punishment aggression paradigm. Finally, the remaining questionnaires are completed outside the scanner. At the end, the participants are reassured that no real social exclusion has taken place, and that the cyberball task has been manipulated for the sake of the experiment.
