Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All of the following surgical procedures performed via full sternotomy: - coronary artery bypass graft [CABG] - combination procedures (valve reconstruction/ replacement + CABG) - replacement of the ascending aorta - type A aortic dissection (Stanford classification)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - mitral valve replacement or reconstruction - off pump coronary artery bypass graft - other valve procedures, that do not fall under the above mentioned surgical procedures

30-day mortality in both groups separated by type of surgical procedure

- intra-/ postoperative catecholamine requirement - length of stay in the ICU and overall - In- hospital mortality and 90- day mortality - ICDSC and SOFA Score - Duration of ventilation and weaning - organ replacement therapy - intra- /postoperative left ventricular ejection fraction - organ failure [acute kidney injury, acute liver injury, ARDS (=acute respiratory distress syndrome)] - postoperative near infrared spectrometry
