Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: •Pregnant women (between the 28th and 34th week of pregnancy) who are planning to give birth at the university clinic of Düsseldorf •Sufficient German language skills to participate in the questionnaire survey • Written consent to participate in the study • Age = 18 years of age Assumed increased mental stress due to the occurrence of at least one of the following criteria - increased depressive levels, o Stressful or even traumatic experiences (general or related to the perinatal period) o Increased fear of childbirth o Increased momentary anxiety o Increased current stress level

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: • Serious concomitant diseases of the mother (as assessed by the investigator) • Known serious illnesses of the child that make it necessary to transfer the newborn to the pediatric ward • Serious psychological alteration of the woman • Lack of mental, physical or linguistic capacity of the woman to participate in the questionnaire survey. •Women with diagnosed dissociative disorder

Evaluation of the effect of a PMR intervention on pre- and postpartum maternal depression

• Recording the current mental stress in the last trimester • Recording the birth outcome (birth mode, gestational age, duration of birth, etc.) as a function of the subjectively experienced stress • Evaluation of the effect of a PMR intervention on fear of birth and pregnancy-related anxiety, but also on general anxiety • Evaluation of the effect of a PMR intervention on the subjectively reported experience of stress • Investigation of the effects of a PMR intervention on the woman's experience of self-efficacy • Comparison of the birth experience between the therapy arms • Evaluation of the effect of a PMR intervention on pre- and postpartum mother-child bonding • Evaluation of the patient's satisfaction with the intervention • Evaluation of the direct effect of the intervention on the subjective stress level (pre- and post-measurement during the intervention sessions) • Evaluation of the direct effect of the intervention on the perceived level of relaxation (pre- and post-measurement during the intervention sessions) • Comparison of infant and maternal postnatal parameters (APGAR, birth weight, birth duration, birth mode, use of painkillers etc.) between the therapy arms
