Interventions

Group 1: 40 healthy participants between the ages of 18 and 40 will be invited to take part in the study. The paradigm consists of 16 blocks of 160 s in which the subjects watch videos during an fMRI

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Can read and understand German or English - BMI 17.0 - 29.9

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - MRI compatibility, i.e. no implants or claustrophobia - Visual impairment that cannot be corrected with MRI-compatible glasses or own contact lenses, e.g. high non-spherical astigmatism - Known history of relevant psychiatric or psychological disorders - Tendency to epileptic seizures - Known relevant eating disorders or metabolic diseases, especially diabetes - Known intolerance to sucrose, salt, citric acid, quinine or monosodium glutamate - Smokers

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The aim is to measure the strength of the effect of distraction on taste perception on a cognitive and neuronal level. We expect to find an attenuation of the intensity and (un)pleasantness of taste by distraction. We will investigate whether the neuronal activity reflects the behavioral data. The whole brain will be scanned and analyzed. We expect decreased activity and decreased connectivity in taste related areas, such as the insula and orbitofrontal cortex. The analysis will be performed with SPM12. A within-subject analysis will be used as a 2-level model to investigate and statistically evaluate brain activation.

MeasureTime frame
In the paradigm, the sweet and umami tastes are administered and examined. Following the paradigm, a further scan is carried out with all five basic tastes (sweet, salty, sour, bitter and umami) in order to investigate the localization of those tastes and to support the analysis of the paradigm.
