Group 1: Post-operative patients with a medium to high risk of post-operative delirium
Collection of 20 ml of whole blood from each patient (preoperative, recovery room, 48h and 5 days postoperative)

Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: o Patients undergoing total hip replacement surgery o other medium to major surgical procedures under general anaesthesia from the Clinics for Surgery, Neurosurgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery o Written declaration of consent from the patient
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: o Age < 60 years o Pre-existing dementia o Immunosuppression with medication o Chronic skin diseases o Rejection by patients o Previous participation in this study o Pre-existing addiction or psychosis o Patients with pacemakers and deep brain stimulation o Existing anticholinergic medication
