Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Clinical group: 1) A substance use disorder according to the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, 2) use of at least one drug over a period of at least 12 months prior to the study on the basis of self-reporting 3) consent to participate in this study Non-clinical group: 1) Over 18 years of age

Exclusion criteria: Clinical group: 1) Under 18 years 2) Acute inpatient treatment Non-clinical group: 1) current inpatient or partial hospitalization due to substance use disorder 2) younger than 18 years

| There are no endpoints in the conventional sense. The aim of this study is, in a first step, to investigate correlations between personality functioning levels on the one hand and severity of substance use on the other. In a second step, a possible moderating role of the personality functioning level in the relationship between childhood traumatization and the severity of substance use will be exploratively investigated. For this purpose, a clinical sample will be collected, which will complete the questionnaires using the paper-pencil method. The test subjects are undergoing inpatient and day-clinic treatment in the department for addiction disorders in a psychiatric clinic. In addition, a non-clinical group without current treatment for a substance use disorder will be surveyed to increase the variance of the variables investigated. The following questionnaires are used: - Severity of substance use: items from the DSM-5 criteria for the severity of substance use disorders - Childhood traumatization: 28 items, German version of the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (Klinitzke et al., 2012) - Personality functioning level: 12 items, short version of the OPD structural questionnaire (OPD-SFK; Ehrenthal et al., 2015) - Attachment: 8 items, Experiences in Close Relationships - Revised questionnaire (ECR-RD8; Ehrenthal et al., 2021) - Anxiety and depression: 4 items, Patient Health Questionnaire-4 (PHQ-4; Löwe et al., 2010) | — |
