Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - application for comprehensive periodontal treatment covered by statutory insurance at the Dept. of Periodontology of the Center for Dentistry and Oral Medicine of Goethe University after April 2005 or at Prof. Eickholz's private practice after October 2004 - complete periodontal charting (probing pocket depth [PPD], clinical attachment loss [CAL] at 6 sites/tooth, furcation involvement [Hamp et al., 1975, Eickholz and Staehle, 1994]) at application (statutory insurance, private patients of the center) and treatment planning (Prof. Eickholz's privat patients) (T0) - self report of smoking (cigarets/day) application (statutory insurance, private patients of the center) and treatment planning (Prof. Eickholz's privat patients) - self report of HbA1c (%) application (statutory insurance, private patients of the center) and treatment planning (Prof. Eickholz's privat patients) - radiographs of the complete dentition (panoramic radiographs or sets of intraoral periapical radiographs) not older than 12 month at T0
