Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The study includes all patients under intensive care monitoring and therapy with a length of stay >48 hours in the surgical intensive care units of the UKB All participating patients have signed the patient consent form for participation in the study and the privacy policy after extensive explanation, clarification and information or were represented by the authorized spouse as part of the spousal proxy after extensive explanation

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Acute or chronic infections of the extremities Open wounds on the lower extremity Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Muscle mass: Measured by thigh circumference, ultrasound Muscle function: Measured by surface electromyography, hand grip strength Time of Measurement: Pre-Intervention phase, Post-Intervention phase, Discharge from ICU, Discharge from the Hospital
