Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients that were included in the initial study (Please also see https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16614863/). Patients had to present two large defects of the dental hard tissues suitable for restoration with CGPCs or PCCs and exhibit a moderate to good level of oral hygiene as represented by a papillary bleeding index (PBI) = 35% (Saxer and Mühlemann 1975). Furthermore, the teeth to be restored had to be free of any symptoms of pain, show tooth mobility less or equal grade I (i.e., mobility discernible, but not visible), and the application of rubber dam isolation had to be possible for insertion of PCCs.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients not meeting at least one of the inclusion criteria.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The Kaplan-Meier survival of partial crowns made of CAD/CAM ceramic or gold after 20 years was investigated on the basis of clinical examinations or, if otherwise not possible, on the basis of patient telephone calls.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The clinical success of partial crowns made of CAD/CAM ceramics or gold was clinically examined 20 years after placement using FDI and USPHS criteria
