Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Relatives = 18 years of age who are close to patients with delirium - Relatives who have contact with the patients and visit them in the ICU - Physically and mentally fit to participate in interviews. Ability to communicate in German. - Patient in the ICU with a diagnosis of delirium according to ICD-10 - Transfer to normal ward

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - End-of-life care / change of treatment goal in EOL Death of the patient - All other languages - Patients diagnosed with or already known to have a form of dementia - Patients with underlying dementia and additional delirium - Participants who do not consent to the study

The aim of the study is to describe how relatives experience the delirium of a loved one in an intensive care unit. For this purpose, guided, problem-centered interviews are conducted after the patients have been transferred from the intensive care unit. Based on a systematic, critical and reflexive description of the current state of research, the aim is to empirically describe the experiences and needs of relatives of delirium patients in more detail in order to find out which interventions are important in terms of support and experience. In addition, possible resources on the part of relatives are to be identified and highlighted. The work is intended to be an input to an innovative topic of nursing research and provide valuable impulses with regard to the phenomenon of delirium from the perspective of relatives.	—
