Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria for GPs: Located in and around Hamburg, practicing at least five years. Inclusion criteria for people with dementia: presence (and knowledge) of a diagnosis of dementia; capacity to give consent; sufficient knowledge of German and language skills to participate in an interview; presence of an informal carer willing to participate; patient in the practice for at least one year. In accordance with the strategy of "purposive sampling", attention should be paid to the greatest possible variation ("maximum variation") with regard to the characteristics of gender (female, male and possibly diverse) and relationship [partner, children, other relatives, friends] to the informal carer. Inclusion criteria for informal carers: accompanying the person with dementia to GP consultations on a regular basis (at least three times in the last two years), capacity to give informed consent, sufficient knowledge of German to participate in an interview.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria for GPs: Located outside the region of the study centre, practicing as a GP for less than five years. Exclusion criteria for people with dementia: lack of capacity to consent; insufficient knowledge of German and language skills to participate in an interview; no informal carer willing to participate; patient in the practice for less than one year. Exclusion criteria for informal carers: not regularly accompanying the person with dementia to GP consultations, not able to give consent, insufficient knowledge of German to take part in an interview.
