Conditions

Hereditary Myopathies idiopathic inflammatory myopathies Individuals with myopathic symptoms but regular or neuropathic muscle biopsy results, or alternativ diagnosis explaining the symptoms (e.g., diseases of the rheumatic spectrum)

Interventions

Group 1: Patients with myopathic symptoms sheduled for a muscular biopsy as part of routine diagnostics at the Clinic for Neurology of the University Medical Center Goettingen are examined using MSOT.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Myopathic symptoms (muscle pain, muscle weakness, CK elevation...) - sheduled for a diagnostic muscular biopsy in a muscle area reachable with MSOT - able to consent to study participation

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - unable to give full informed consent - pregnancy - tattoos of the skin in the examination area - critical ill or instable patients

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Determination of the optoacoustic absorption spectrum of a skeletal muscle chosen for a muscle biopsy in patients with myopathic symptoms

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Quantitative lipide, collagen, haemo-/myoglobine signal (arbitrary units) and muscle oxygeniation (%) in MSOT. Signs of muscle atrophy (measurement of area) Results of muscular biopsy mit fibrous / fatty tissue, inflammation, vascularisation, myopathic or neuropathic damage, muscular atrophy.
